Chopin's Europe - The Book

Chopin’s Europe is a beautifully presented photographic record of all the places that Chopin visited throughout the four decades of his life in Europe. Hanna Komarnicka’s highly evocative and personal photographs, painstakingly collated and edited by her husband Juliusz over a decade of extensive European travel, show all the Chopin sites, some familiar, some rarely published, others newly discovered.

The compact yet comprehensive text, by critically acclaimed Chopin biographers Iwo and Pamela Zaluski, tells Chopin’s story more from a localized, geographical point of view rather than the more usual chronological biography. This innovative format brings to life the varying beauties, moods and aspects of his Continent, from remotest Poturzyń in the sub-Ukrainian hinterland, through the wild, rugged beauties of Majorca to the mist-swathed Highlands of Scotland, places in which he lived, loved, played and composed his memorable masterpieces. The text is liberally complemented with quotations from correspondence, and enhanced with musical excerpts.

The Production is by Juliusz Komarnicki, and the Foreword is by Martha Argerich, arguably the greatest Chopin pianist of her generation.
